1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Mae's Story Bloom ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by Mae's Story Bloom ("we," "us," "our").

2. Description of Service

Mae's Story Bloom is an AI-powered children's book creation platform that allows users to write stories, generate illustrations, and export print-ready publications. The Service is provided as a web application with optional subscription tiers.

3. Account Registration

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
• Accounts are created via Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• Children may use the Service under direct parental supervision using the parent's account.

4. Subscription & Payment

• Free Tier: Basic access with limited features. No payment required.
• Paid Tiers (Bloom, Pro): Billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Prices are listed on our pricing page.
• Cancellation: Cancel anytime from your account settings. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds: We offer a full refund within 7 days of your first subscription payment. After 7 days, no refunds are provided for partial billing periods.
• Price Changes: We may adjust pricing with 30 days' notice via email.

5. Content Ownership & Usage Rights

• Your Content: You retain ownership of the stories and text you write.
• AI-Generated Illustrations: Illustrations are generated using third-party AI models (Google Gemini, Imagen, Pollinations). Usage rights for AI-generated content vary by subscription tier:
  • Free/Bloom: Personal use only.
  • Pro: Full commercial usage rights, including publishing and selling.
• Our License: By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely for providing the Service.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Generate content that is harmful, abusive, or inappropriate for children.
• Circumvent usage limits or subscription restrictions.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
• Share or redistribute your account access with others.

7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Illustrations and text suggestions are generated by artificial intelligence. While we use safety filters to ensure child-appropriate content, AI outputs may occasionally be unexpected or imperfect. You are responsible for reviewing all generated content before publishing. We do not guarantee that AI-generated content is free from errors, biases, or unintended elements.

8. Service Availability

We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice. Critical data (your books) can always be exported as JSON backups.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mae's Story Bloom shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, you may export your data for 30 days. After 30 days, your data may be permanently deleted.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before taking effect.

Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• Account data: Name, email address, and profile photo (via Google Sign-In).
• Content: Stories, illustrations, and book projects you create.
• Payment data: Processed securely by Stripe. We never store credit card numbers.

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data: Features used, books created, exports generated (for tier enforcement).
• Device data: Browser type, screen size, operating system (for compatibility).
• Firebase Analytics: Anonymized usage patterns to improve the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide and maintain the Service (store your books, sync across devices).
• Process payments and manage subscriptions.
• Enforce usage limits based on your subscription tier.
• Improve the Service based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns.
• Communicate important updates (billing, Terms changes, outages).

3. Data Storage & Security

• Data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore, Firebase Storage) hosted in the United States.
• All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest.
• Local data is stored in your browser's IndexedDB for offline access.
• We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your data.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Firebase: Authentication, database, file storage.
• Google Gemini / Imagen API: AI text and image generation.
• Pollinations AI: Alternative image generation engine.
• Stripe: Payment processing.

Each service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Mae's Story Bloom is designed for families. Important notes:

• Accounts must be created by a parent or guardian (18+).
• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
• Children may use the app under parental supervision using the parent's account.
• If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

6. Your Rights

• Access: You can view all your data within the app.
• Export: You can export all your books as JSON backups at any time.
• Deletion: You can delete individual books or request full account deletion by contacting us.
• Portability: Export your data and take it elsewhere — your stories belong to you.

7. Data Retention

• Active accounts: Data retained as long as your account is active.
• Deleted accounts: Data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
• Cancelled subscriptions: Your data is retained (read-only) for 90 days, then deleted.
